Website chatbots

You’ve probably noticed more and more websites popping up with little chat bubbles in the corner. Some are helpful. Some are… well, annoying. So naturally, as a business owner, you might be wondering:

“Should I add one to my site?”

Here’s our honest take… without the fluff!

First off, what exactly is a chatbot?

A chatbot is a tool that lives on your website and chats with visitors. Some are super basic, answering a few FAQs. Others are smarter and powered by AI, meaning they can hold a more human-like conversation (within reason).

They’re not magic. But they can be useful.

What can a chatbot or AI tool actually do?

  • Answer questions instantly, even when your team’s offline
  • Guide visitors to the right page, product, or service
  • Help with bookings, enquiries, or support
  • Collect leads while people are still interested
  • Save time for your team by filtering out the repetitive stuff

Does your website need one?

It depends on your business, your goals, and how you interact with customers.

A chatbot may help if you…

  • Get lots of similar questions every day; as it can answer those for you
  • Miss out on leads out-of-hours; Chatbots are always “awake”
  • Have a clear path for users (book > buy > enquire).

If you sell complex products or services that need real conversations. It is likely best not to integrate a chatbot, as your website visitors might get frustrated

What should you not use a chatbot for?

  • Replacing real human conversations when they matter
  • Hiding behind it instead of being reachable
  • Trying to sound overly robotic or “salesy”

Is it expensive?

Not really. There are loads of options, from free tools like Tidio, Tawk.to, or HubSpot’s free chatbot, all the way to AI-powered tools like Chatbase, Drift, or Intercom. We always recommend testing something simple first. See how your audience responds. You can upgrade later.

Where should you start?

  • Decide what you want the chatbot to do … help with FAQs? Collect leads? Route support?
  • Choose a tool that integrates with your website (we can help with that, by the way.)
  • Keep the tone friendly and human
  • Write it like a real person would speak

Before you go any further…

A chatbot or AI tool isn’t essential for every website, but if you’re looking to improve response times, capture more leads, or just make your website feel more alive, it’s worth considering!
